| Re: Captiveworks CW800s WARNING.....If there is a users guide, its not the book that came with CW800.. Its very vague, it just tells you what the fuctions the box has... It doesn't tell you how to use them... Once you try to up-date the firmware you box is DEAD.... There is NO recovery from this, ... BEWARE.... |

| Re: Captiveworks CW800s Captive Works CW800 PVR S/W Installation Guide
Using Serial Cable
First of all you need following tools to upgrade your new Captive Works CW800 PVR receiver.
1.Captive Works CW800 PVR receiver.
2.Null Modem Serial Cable.
3.Captive Works CW800 PVR Software Loader“CW800SUpgradeV1.02.exe”
4.Latest available Software bin file from the Company Website.
Download all required files and unzip them using winrar or winzip and extract them
in a same folder.
1)Connect your PC and receiver with twisted RS-232C Null modem cable.
2)Plug in the power supply cord of your receiver to the power source and leave
your receiver turned OFF.
3) You can load bin file using two methods “boot” Mod and "Standby" Mod. If you want to load the software using "Standby" Mod go to #4. Standby Mod is recommended method to load bin file because it is faster and safe.
Here how you get into“boot”MOD:Hold power button on the front of the receiver and turn the power ON from the main power switch of the receiver. You will see a word “boot” on the front LCD screen of the receiver.
4)Turn receiver Off from the back and then ON the receiver; Once it has rebooted; now press "POWER" key on front of the receiver panel to bring it to standby, the LED display will display “- - : - -“.
5)Start Loader CW800SUpgradeV1.02.exe
Check if the right COM port is selected. Most of the time COM 1 is default.
Also make sure Download S/W is selected.
6)Press File Icon beside File Box and select the Latest bin file you downloaded from the Company website“CW800V1.XX_date.bin".
Now Press Open or Press Enter key on your keyboard to load file in your loader.
7)Now its time to start loading the software, Press Start button on the loader and the upgrade will begin.
LED screen on your receiver will change to A ####s and then Writing. Finally you will see “–End”.
Congratulations!! Your receiver is upgraded and now you can use all new features available for your receiver.
If you experience any problem during the upgrade start over again.

Thanks for the tips.... But like I said before.. The only thing I can get it to do is come up on "boot".... When turned back off and switched back on "boot" comes up for about 3 sec. and goes out and the led screen is blank... and no mater what botton you push nothing happens... I down load the loader to my computer and use it to load the firmware to the box via the cable provided... The box goes into a count down starting just above 4000 it displays end on the led screen when finished... I turn the box off, disconnect the cable and turn it back on... The word "boot" flashes on the panel then goes out and then the box does nothing... The loader and the firmware, are right from the Captiveworks web site.... I have bee told that this process should put the box back to factory settings.... All I can say is HA!!! What up sets me the most is, this is the secound box and everything responed the same way with the same results... But again thank you for the info... |
