How do I know if the motherboard is for AMD or Intel processors?

If I were to explain to a class, what is a clear indication that the motherboard is for AMD or Intel? I believe it has to do with the socket type, correct?

Go to start, then programs, then accessories, then go system tools, then system information, This will give you a comprehensive info about all of your system, mother board and if you have ADM or Intel.Menue Checking hardware resources will tell you up front if it is AMD or Intel.Good luck

Yep, the socket type will tell you. You can look at the socket, match it to a picture of the various socket types, and then see what processors that socket takes. There is no current socket that can take both AMD and Intel CPUs (and hasn't been for more than 10 years now).

Start menu -> right click on My Computer -> propertiesIf it is a intel cpu than it will have a: pentium, celeron, core 2 duo, i3/5/7 etc etc processorif its an amd cpu than it will have a: athlon, etc etc...Just google the cpu name to find out who makes it.Intel cpus only work on intel specific mobos and vice versa. Sockets are just for different generations of cpus...for example the intel pentium D processor is a lga 775 socket, while the intel core2dou processor line is lga 1156 ...and 900+ series of intel's i7s are lga 1366 socket. Amd has AM1, am2, am3 etc sockets.
