'Kid' strikes No. 1 box office pose

LOS ANGELES, (UPI) -- "The Karate Kid" kicked and punched its way to the No. 1 box office spot this weekend, bringing in a whopping $56 million.

"The A-Team" was a respectable second with $26 million.

"Shrek Forever," in its fourth weekend, still took in $15.8 million for the No. 3 spot.

All studio estimates of gross box office receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"Get Him to the Greek" was fourth with $10.1 million; "Killers" was fifth with $8.17 million; "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" sixth with $6.6 million; "Marmaduke" seventh with $6 million; "Sex and the City" eighth with more than $5.52 million; "Iron Man" ninth with $4.55 million.

"Splice" rounded out the top 10 with $2.86 million.
