Why doesn't the wireless router provided by the cable company not work on our pc?

We got Cox cable based phone service and internet last month. We had planned on using a wireless router for our laptops. However we can't get the router to work. The router claims it can use windows XP which we have but all we get is a message sayiny it can't support the device. Could our pc be too old? It is about 7-8 years old.

i assume you got a software with the router and ahve installed all that and the computer is wireless enabled? maybe a adaptor for your router where you will get software for that to run on

Go to Control Panel on the start menu, then click on Windows Anytime Update. But you'll need internet for that. Or you could just upgrade to Windows 7, since your p.c is that old.

Your version of xp is most likely not updated to service pack 3. Also make sure that your wireless card is updated with the newest drivers. Have you set up the router yet? Make sure it is transmitting. Also hard wire it to at least make sure it is broadcasting the internet. Good luck.
