HughesNet Adopts Leasing Plan

Hughes Network Systems on Tuesday introduced an equipment leasing option for its HughesNet satellite broadband service.

The HughesNet offer follows a similar move made by WildBlue in late August, in which the competing satellite broadband platform introduced its own leasing proposition.

To promote its leasing option, Hughes said that for a limited time all new subscribers who lease equipment for any of HughesNet's six service plans will receive free standard installation.

Subscribers who select the leasing option will pay an upfront fee of $99 at the time of activation. Qualified subscribers will receive free installation and pay a monthly equipment rental fee of $9.99 for each month of service.

As an alternative to the leasing option, new subscribers can purchase equipment for $299.98, after a $100 mail-in rebate, now through Sept. 30, the company said.
