Here are two fixes for the dreaded dashes after a new file load.

This post is meant for just that [ new file load] It never fails that when we obtain a new file, we see posts about do not power off/frozen/locked etc. I hope this fixes your issue and if not, please feel free to create your own thread with a topic.

Welcome aboard if you have just arrived and good luck to all with this new bin. thank you coders once again for all the long hours you dudes and dudets put in for us here.

CCLONE PROCEDURE: IF YOU HAVE A FRIEND THAT HAS AN ULTRA OR ULTRA2 YOU CAN CLONE THAT UNIT TO BRING IT BACK. JUST REMEMBER TO DEFAULT IT BACK TO FACTORY AFTER THE COPY.
Clone A ViewSat * STB --> STB Data Transfer between VS boxes
For use in cloning one ViewSat to another.
a. Connect the "Master" ViewSat to your TV; Power switch "ON"
b. Connect the "Clone" to the wall power; switch Power "OFF"
c. Connect the "Master" and "Clone" ViewSats using a NULL MODEM
cable
d. MENU--INSTALLATION--RECEIVER UPGRADE--ALL INFORMATION
e. "OK" and the "MASTER" ViewSat sets up to send data tothe Clone" ViewSat
f. Turn the "Clone" ViewSat's power switch to "ON" and the transfer
begins
NOTE: AFter the transfer is completed, the "Clone" ViewSat needs up
to 1 minute to process the transferred data.
Watch the Front Panel on the "Clone" ViewSat.
"inst" will be displayed for ~ 15 seconds
"DONE" will be displayed for ~ 10 seconds
REBOOT will occur automatically without user intervention " on "
will be displayed during reboot
"0 0 0 0" will show when the "Clone" has finished--no more than 1
minute after data transfer
You may now Power "OFF" the "Clone" ViewSat, disconnect the NULL
MODEM cable and go use your new Clone ViewSat
hope this helps some out ..

THE WELL KNOWN NULL CABLE FIX:
credits to this site!people places and things... Go to the file section to obtain the factory file v131 and also the how to section to obtain loader2....
follow these instructions exactly, timing with loader2 and having your machine on when it says to and off when it says that, is extremely important, that's why many people will tell you to do it 3 times. the last person i helped had to do it twice, got the timing wrong, which is really easy to do, most important, don't open loader2 with the machine on, it has to be off til the instructions tell you to turn it on
"in my experience with pansats, coolsats and viewsat, i've never seen a dead one. there were some that were "apparently" dead but all were brought back to life with the following procedure.
(then you do what i explain in the next part)
you may have to do this a few times to get the timing right, but if the receiver is not physically dead, this will work."
now, using the tutorial below load factory file 1.31 from
step by step: how to load a viewsat ultra file using your null modem cable and pc
1. remembering to power off unit from the back switch before disconnecting any cables, unhook viewsat from tv and bring to computer.
2. connect null modem data cable between pc and stb (receiver). on the back of your stb in plug one end of our data cable into the port labeled serial port and the other end into our computers serial port (usually, but not always, com 1)
3. plug stb into an ac outlet, making sure the power switch on the back is in the off position.
*EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: DO NOT TURN THE BOOT SWITCH TO ON UNTIL YOU ARE INSTRUCTED TO. loader 2 must open with your stb off or it wont work
4. run viewsat loader2 on your pc
5. you will now have the viewsat loader2 open and ready to be used.
6. if this is your first time using the viewsat loader2 you need to select the correct com port. if you have already used the viewsat loader successfully then skip to step 8. to set the com port run the tool->configuration menu in the top menu of loader2
7. a configuration window will pop up and you need to select the com port that you have plugged your cable into. if you only have one serial port it usually will be com port 1. once set click OK
8. now its time to choose the file(s) you want to load to your viewsat. with the viewsat loader2 still open click on Open File
9. now a window will popup where you can select the file(s) you want to load to the stb.
10. now that you have your file(s) selected it is time to load it/them to your stb. remember you have the stb plugged into an ac outlet with the power switch on the back set to OFF (very important). you also have your null modem data cable plugged into the back of your stb in the port labeled serial port, and the other end into your computers serial port (usually com 1). with that all verified you are ready to load.
* click on the button labeled PC-> STB and a window will pop up waiting to transfer the file.
* at this point you need to flip the power switch to ON which will start the transfer of file(s).
* the loader at this point will load all the files you have selected to the stb.
* once the loader has completed transferring all the files you selected it will show you a popup window saying the download is complete. VERY IMPORTANT ALWAYS WAIT TILL THE STB DISPLAYS 0000 AFTER THE COMPLETED POPUP APPEARS BEFORE POWERING OFF STB.
* click on OK then exit.
10. now that you have seen the stb display “End” followed by “0000” it is safe to turn the power switch to off and unplug the ac and data cable and go and hook it up to the tv remember leaving the power switch to off till all cables are reconnected.
* if you encounter an error pop up window while transferring a file just click OK and click on the button labeled PC-> STB again to restart the transfer from the last uncompleted file. you will notice that all successful file transfers get unchecked.
* you may also have to set any passwords and your time settings if you load a new fix (main software)
when youre finished disconnect your null modem cable and unplug your ultra, move it back to your tv, and load the last bin that worked for you onto your usb stick. upload it to your machine. remember when its finished rebooting to do a manual hard reboot. your ultra will be fine again
let me know if you need help. good luck
File section for the factory file v131
file secton for the loader2
How to section for more information if any.

Problem with loader2?? In loder2 click on tools, configuration and
check the com port it should be com port 1. Also right click my computer,
properties, click on Hardware and the devices. Go to LPT (com/lpt) right
click communications lpt1 go to properties and then advanced and make
sure it is set to com port 1. If you are still getting the error, use
the PVR loader it automatically detects the com ports.
