WH tea honors moms, grandmas, daughters
WASHINGTON, (UPI) -- Mothers, daughters and granddaughters who once lived in the White House met again in Washington for a Mother's Day Tea hosted by first lady Michelle Obama.
Obama said the opportunity to have three generations of women living in the White House is "beautiful," as she introduced her mom, Marian Robinson, to the guests, The New York Times reported Saturday.
"This woman who tries to take absolutely no credit for who I am for some reason, she is my rock," Obama said of her mother.
Invitees to the tea included spouses and mothers of members of the military, as part of Military Spouses Appreciation Day Friday, as well as women participating in the White House Leadership and Mentoring Initiative.
"Even though we live in the White House, we know that our day-to-day family interaction isn't really different from families living in Atlanta or Sioux Falls or Tucson, because everyone is busy," Obama said. "Ours is just televised."
