SUMMERVILLE, SC - Two drivers and 12 children were taken to the hospital Thursday morning after a car hit a school bus in Summerville.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the school bus was traveling westbound on Old Orangeburg Road and was stopped in traffic when a four-door Suzuki sedan traveling eastbound dropped to the shoulder of the road. When the driver attempted to get back on the roadway, the driver lost control and struck the bus on the left front wheel and fender area.
Both drivers were transported by ambulance to the Summerville Medical Center along with six of the approximately 25 students on the bus. Six other students were taken to the hospital in private cars. There is no word on the conditions of any of the victims.
The driver of the Suzuki, Karolayne Nascimento, 23, of Goose Creek, was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
The driver of the bus, Crystal Brown, 28, of Summerville, was not charged or found to have contributed to the collision.
According to the SC Highway Patrol, the school bus was headed to Dubose Middle School.
