CEOs find it's a bumpier year at the top
CHICAGO, (UPI) -- The first six months of 2010 were bumpier than the same period last year for U.S. chief executive officers, a private research group said.

January through June this year saw 673 CEO departures, while a year ago in the same period 607 CEO departures were announced, Challenger, Gray & Christmas said Thursday.

This year, 190 CEOs retired, while 201 resigned their positions. One hundred-twelve stepped down and 57 found jobs in other companies.

The telling number is 34, the number of CEOs who left involuntarily, Challenger, Gray & Christmas said.

Including firings, CEOs pressured by company boards to leave, departures due to scandals and departures blamed on the economy, this year's total so far, 34, exceeds the 27 involuntary departures from the first six months of 2009.
