COLUMBUS, Ohio, The U.S. Postal Service will pay homage to five beloved newspaper comic strips through its Sunday Funnies stamp series dedicated Friday, officials said.
Strips captured on the 44-cent First Class stamps are Archie, Beetle Bailey, Dennis the Menace, Garfield, and Calvin and Hobbes, USPS officials said in a release.
"Like stamps, comic strips often tell a story through humor, adventure, fantasy and sometimes even drama," U.S. Postal Service Eastern Area Vice President Megan Brennan said. "Today, we are gathered to commemorate five of our country's most beloved comic strips and dedicate an amazing stamp pane that represents a unique part of American culture."
The stamps were dedicated at Ohio State University, in Columbus, the home of the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum.
