Manitoba will contribute $1.8 million to help fund Canada's seventh Tim Hortons camp, Premier Greg Selinger announced Wednesday.

"I am proud that Manitoba will soon be home to the seventh Tim Hortons camp where young people from all walks of life will have a chance to learn and have fun in Manitoba's beautiful backyard," Selinger said.

"Our government is pleased to support the establishment of this camp that will enrich the lives of countless disadvantaged young people in the years to come."

The youth leadership facility will be established near Sylvia Lake at Whiteshell Provincial Park, northeast of Winnipeg, the province said in a news release.

The Tim Hortons Children's Foundation has been granted an Environment Act licence for the camp and road construction is anticipated to begin later this year. The total cost of the camp is estimated to be $12 million.

"We are thrilled to have this announcement made today, Tim Hortons Camp Day, as it highlights Manitobans' contributions toward positive change in a child's life," said foundation president Bill Moir.

The foundation is expected to begin construction on the camp next spring with the aim of opening it in the summer of 2013.
