<div>Canada Post workers in Montreal began strike action at 11:30 p.m. ET Sunday, the third in a series of rotating strikes that launched Thursday night in Winnipeg.

Denis Lemelin, president for the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, said 600 workers are walking off the job. The sorting centre would close Sunday night and letter carrier depots would remain shut Monday.

Montreal operations were targeted for strike action because of their role in Canada Post's modernization program, Lemelin said. "The new technology is going to be felt, among other ways, in health and safety, both by inside and outside workers."

On the status of negotiations, Lemelin said proposals had been exchanged, but that "the big issues are still on the table
