A shooting incident in which heavily armed RCMP officers had a building in Richmond, B.C., surrounded has ended, apparently without injury.

Police would release few details except to say that a man and woman were involved and that a shot had been fired within a condominium complex near Granville Avenue and Railway Avenue.

The man was in custody, police said later.

The complex had been behind police tape since early Tuesday afternoon and no one was allowed to enter or leave until the incident ended about 7:30 p.m. PT.

Earlier Tuesday, RCMP Cpl. Sherrdean Turley confirmed that police negotiators had been in contact with two people in the building.

A high school and an elementary school in the area were locked down temporarily.

Word of the incident began to spread Tuesday afternoon as police banged on doors asking residents to leave the area.

The neighbourhood affected is about one kilometre south of Vancouver International Airport.
