No you DO NOT need a special monitor, but you do need a special DVD ROM Drive. It MUST be able to read Blu-Ray discs and be compatible with them, and other DVD's :) hope this helps have a nice evening :)

1) make sure that ur video card has a hdmi output2) buy a hd monitor, i recomend at least a 24"3) buy a hdmi cable and hook ur computer up 2 ur screen

Nope. You'll be all set to start burning those Blu-ray DVD's. You know, I take it, that the blanks cost almost as much as the pre-recorded disks, right?
