Academy: Oscars date won't be moved up
LOS ANGELES, -- Members of Hollywood's Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences say they discussed moving up the date of the 2012 Oscars show, but decided against it.
The next Academy Awards broadcast -- honoring the previous year's best in film -- is scheduled for Feb. 27, but some Academy officers and board members campaigned to re-schedule it in January.
"The Academy's Board of Governors has determined that the date of the 84th Academy Awards in 2012 will not be significantly earlier than the now-traditional last Sunday in February," the Academy told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. "A different date still remains a possibility in subsequent years, and the Academy's staff and board will continue to evaluate the advantages and challenges associated with such a change."
