Baby born on flight to Florida
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., (UPI) -- A flight from Haiti landed in Florida with an additional passenger on board after a woman gave birth to a baby boy during the trip, firefighters said.
Crew members and a doctor who happened to be on the American Airlines plane brought the child into the world shortly before touchdown at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Mike Jachles, a spokesman for Broward County Sheriff Fire Rescue, told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that mother and child were taken to a hospital. There were no complications during the unusual birth.
Jachles said it wasn't known how far along the 22-year-old Haitian mom-to-be was when she boarded the flight in Port-au-Prince.
