COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- A boater on Thursday discovered the body of a man wearing a black wetsuit floating in the Atlantic Ocean off Cocoa Beach, authorities said.

The body was found about 12 miles offshore, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Homicide agents and U.S. Coast Guard representatives were headed to the site to investigate. The body will be recovered and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

It's not known if the finding is connected to a kayaker who was reported missing last week in Brevard County.

Michael Alexander, 49, of Cape Canaveral, was reported missing by his girlfriend, prompting a search that initially included bloodhounds north of Satellite Beach and a helicopter from the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Alexander’s blue pickup was found parked at Spra Park, which is near State Road A1A and Berkeley Street north of Satellite Beach. Authorities located Alexander's red Scrambler XL ocean kayak last week about 20 miles northeast of the original search area.
