'Bold,' 'Turns' win big at Emmys
LAS VEGAS, (UPI) -- "The Bold and the Beautiful" won the Daytime Emmys for outstanding drama series and writing team at an awards ceremony in Las Vegas.
The soap's cast member Drew Tyler Bell also took home the statuette for outstanding younger actor in a drama series.
"As the World Turns" star Maura West took home the Emmy for lead actress and co-stars Michael Park and Julie Pinson were named outstanding lead actor and supporting actress.
Billy Miller of "The Young & the Restless" picked up the prize for supporting actor in a drama and Julie Bermer of "General Hospital" won the trophy for young actress in a drama.
"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" was honored as outstanding entertainment talk show and "The Doctors" as outstanding information talk show.
"Cash Cab" won the trophy for outstanding game/audience participation show and its star Ben Bailey was declared outstanding game-show host.
Dr. Mehmet Oz of "The Dr. Oz Show" won the Emmy for outstanding talk-show host.
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences gala took place at the Las Vegas Hilton Sunday and was presided over by daytime talk-show host Regis Philbin.
Highlights of the show included special tributes to iconic TV personality Dick Clark, as well as to the soap operas "As the World Turns," which will wrap up in September after 54 years on the air, and "All My Children," which is celebrating its 40th anniversary on television.
Daytime drama writer/creator Agnes Nixon received a lifetime achievement award for her 45 years in the industry.
The awards show featured appearances by David Copperfield and Barry Manilow, with performances by the casts of the Lion King, Jersey Boys, Blue Man Group and KA by Cirque du Soleil.
