EMERSON, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska woman accidentally shot in the torso by her four-year-old son Thursday remains hospitalized in serious condition Friday.
Toshia Houfek, 27, was air-lifted to Mercy Medical Center after the shooting in her Emerson home Thursday morning.
The Dixon County Sheriff's Office says the boy was playing with a rifle he found in a gun case under a bed when he accidentally fired it.
The bullet went through a wall and a recliner, then hit the boy's mother in her right side.
