An eight-year-old Abbotsford boy is in serious condition in hospital after falling four storeys from an apartment window.
Abbotsford police Const. Ian MacDonald said the boy fell from a bedroom window in a building in the 3300-block of Borquin Crescent East.
At the time of the fall, the boy's mother had left the apartment to run errands while the child and his siblings were being tutored by two teenagers.
Despite the height of the fall, MacDonald said the boy was conscious when paramedics arrived.
"The young man has been extricated and transported to hospital," he said.
"He will likely be airlifted into an out-of-jurisdiction hospital for what are being described as pretty severe injuries. At this point in time, obviously, thoughts are with this young man and we're hoping for him to be alright."
MacDonald said the boy suffered several fractures and internal injuries. He said it looks like the child may have landed on either concrete or asphalt.
Abbotsford police are investigating.
