Calif.'s Crown fire 82% contained
LOS ANGELES, The Crown fire in California was 82 percent contained Saturday yet fire officials expressed concern the Los Angeles County blaze could break out.
Fire officials called the situation "very fluid," the Los Angeles Times reported. While mandatory evacuation orders were lifted and most residents had returned home, the fire that has burned nearly 14,000 acres still threatened about 2,300 residences, 60 commercial buildings and more than 100 outbuildings, the newspaper said.
The potential for high temperatures and strong winds were keeping firefighting crews on edge.
"When you get a fire this size that produces an enormous amount of heat, you can't anticipate what might happen," county Fire Department Inspector Frederic Stowers said.
Six helicopters, four fixed-wing aircraft and a DC-10 air tanker were aiding about 1,320 firefighters on the ground, the Times said.
