Consumer prices lift, but not much
WASHINGTON, Consumer prices rose slightly in July, up 0.3 percent, following three consecutive months of declines, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.
Core consumer prices that exclude the more volatile categories of food and energy rose 0.1 percent, following a 0.2 percent rise in June, which followed two months in which core prices were unchanged.
For the past 12 months, core prices have risen 0.9 percent, well below the Federal Reserve's target of 2 percent.
Energy prices for the month rose 2.6 percent after a drop of 2.9 percent a month ago. Food prices in July fell 0.1 percent, after two consecutive months with virtually no change.
