Dished Up Cowboys

Here's the latest news from the wild west: Cowboys riding the deep backcountry range armed with Remingtons, ropes and satellite telephones.

In a program launched by the federal Bureau of Land Management and the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security, seven cowboys in the wilds of Idaho's Owyhee County are now carrying Iridium sat phones as an early warning system against wildfires. According to the AP, BLM managers figure that the $10,000 investment in the sat phones could save taxpayers nearly $50 million in the costs incurred by a major fire.
