'Eclipse' earns $30M at early screenings
LOS ANGELES, (UPI) -- "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" earned more than $30 million at the North American box office for midnight Tuesday performances.
The Hollywood Reporter said the amount is unprecedented for a movie opening at that time and day.
"Eclipse" predecessor "New Moon," the second film in the "Twilight" franchise, scored a record in November 2009 by raking in $26.3 million at midnight Thursday performances, the entertainment industry newspaper noted.
The record for midnight box office was previously held by "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," which earned $22.2 million from its earliest screenings in July 2009, the report said.
