Ex-Michigan cornerback faces 45 years
ANN ARBOR, Mich., (UPI) -- A 22-year-old former University of Michigan football player faces as much as 45 years in prison after pleading guilty to four robbery charges, authorities said.

Boubacar Cissoko, once seen as the cornerback who would help solidify the Michigan defensive backfield, told the Washtenaw County Circuit Court he "was going through a tough time" when he committed the robberies and acknowledged "what I did was bad."

In testifying about an aborted April 18 robbery of an Ann Arbor, Mich., taxicab driver, Cissoko said: "I had a pellet gun when he pulled up in the back of the building. I put the gun in his face. I looked at his face. He was really scared. Then I left on my own free will."

Cissoko was initially charged with trying to rob the cab driver but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of assault with intent to rob, which carries a 15-year sentence, The Detroit News reported.

He also admitted to three charges of larceny from a person, including another cab driver, this one in Ypsilanti, Mich., and pizza and sandwich delivery men in Ann Arbor.

The crime spree began five months after coach Rich Rodriguez dismissed Cissoko from the team for twice violating team rules. Cissoko started Michigan's first four games at cornerback last season.

Cissoko's prison term is likely to be much less than 45 years, the newspaper said. Defendants usually serve such sentences concurrently, rather than consecutively, especially when they plead guilty, the newspaper said.

Circuit Judge Archie Brown will sentence Cissoko Aug. 10.
