Fiona newest Atlantic tropical storm

MIAMI, -- Tropical Storm Fiona spawned in the south Atlantic Ocean Monday and appeared ready to follow the paths of Hurricanes Earl and Danielle, forecasters said.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said in a 5 p.m. EDT advisory that Fiona had formed nearly 900 miles east of the Leeward Islands and had achieved maximum sustained winds of 40 mph as it headed west at 24 mph. It was expected to veer to the west-northwest Tuesday, and then lose forward speed and turn to the northwest early Wednesday, when it could be near or just to the northeast of the northern Leeward Islands.
The storm could gain some strength in the next two days, forecasters said.
No storm watches or warnings had been issued for any islands in the region.
Both Earl and Danielle missed populated areas as they traveled through the Caribbean before turning north along the U.S. East Coast.
