Two separate fires destroyed two businesses and a provincial housing office in Happy Valley-Goose Bay in central Labrador over the weekend.

Firefighters were called to the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation office on Royal Street at about 1a.m., Monday.

Nobody was inside at the time, said a fire department spokesperson.

It took about four hours to fight the fire, but the single-storey building could not be saved.

First fire Sunday

Firefighters also were kept busy with another fire on the weekend. It was discovered when RCMP responded early Sunday morning to a security alarm at the Pizza Delight on Hamilton River Road.

Police said thick smoke and flames had already engulfed from the restaurant when they arrived.

Firefighters weren't able to save the building that housed a Pizza Delight restaurant and a tattoo shop.

Both businesses were destroyed.

The RCMP and the Provincial Fire Commissioner are investigating.
