-- Hall of Fame NFL linebacker Lawrence Taylor pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors Thursday and is expected to be sentenced to six years' probation with sex-offender status, according to the Rockland County, New York, district attorney's Office.
Taylor was arrested in May on charges of "improper sexual conduct involving an underage girl in a Rockland County hotel," the district attorney's office said. Prosecutors said Taylor paid the teen $300 after "sexual acts."
The girl was 16, according to a statement from prosecutors.
Taylor entered a guilty plea to one count of sexual misconduct and one count of patronizing a prostitute in the third degree, both misdemeanor charges, the prosecutor said.
Taylor, 51, was arrested in a Ramapo, New York, Holiday Inn room on May 6, a few hours after the alleged encounter took place, authorities said at the time. Ramapo is about 30 miles northwest of New York City.
"This department believes that the resolution reached in this case is fair and appropriate," Ramapo Police Chief Peter Brower said Thursday.
Arthur Aidala, Taylor's attorney, said his client "patronized a prostitute and that prostitute happened to be under the age of 17. Although he inquired as to her age, he was lied to."
"He could have taken a much more aggressive road, but he decided it was in the best interest of he and his family, and the young woman involved here, to dispose of the case the way we did today, to put this behind him," said Aidala.
Taylor's sentencing is set for March 22.
Along with the probation, he is expected to be fined $2,000, the prosecutor said, adding the former athlete must register as a sex offender.
The victim was forced to commit sexual acts and turn over the cash to her alleged pimp, prosecutors said.
