Former Ontario cabinet minister Bob Mackenzie has died.
Mackenzie, who was 82, served as labour minister in Bob Rae's NDP government in the 1990s.
New Democrat Leader Andrea Horwath says Mackenzie was a Hamilton icon and an NDP giant.
She says he was a man of great integrity and passion.
"And during his time as minister of labour, Ontario workers made great strides — on pay equity, on labour rights, on workplace standards," Horwath said in a statement.
As labour minister, Mackenzie brought in legislation to ban replacement workers during strikes.
He served as a member of provincial parliament for two decades and retired from politics in 1995.
