Furyk disqualified from The Barclays
PARAMUS, N.J., -- Jim Furyk, the world's No. 6-ranked golfer, was disqualified from The Barclays tournament for missing a pro-am tee time Wednesday.

The Barclays is the first tournament of the FedEx Cup series and begins Thursday. Furyk is No. 3 in the FedEx Cup point standings.

Furyk was scheduled for a 7:30 a.m. tee off at the pro-am in New Jersey. He told The Star-Ledger newspaper his cellphone, which he used as an alarm clock, ran out of power and failed to go off in time for him to get to the Ridgewood Country Club course.

"I don't know if something happened with the charger or what, but I never got it," Furyk told the newspaper. "I just tore out of there, threw a pair of pants on and a shirt -- still have no belt, no socks and my shoes are untied -- and actually got in the locker room at 7:35, but I guess I had to be on the tee."

PGA rules stipulate a player who misses a pro-am tee time, except for injury or family emergency, is ineligible for that week's tournament.
