Google acquires Metaweb
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., U.S. search-engine giant Google said Friday it acquired Metaweb, a company Google said "maintains an open database of things in the world."

The purchase was announced by Jack Menzel, Google's director of product management, on the company's blog.

"Today, we've acquired Metaweb, a company that maintains an open database of things in the world," Menzel wrote. "Working together we want to improve search and make the web richer and more meaningful for everyone."

The acquisition will allow Google to answer more involved questions, such as colleges meeting tuition requirements, or multiple-Oscar winning actors and actresses.

"These are hard questions, and we've acquired Metaweb because we believe working together we'll be able to provide better answers," he said.

Menzel did not reveal the purchase price.
