John Donald MacInnis, 73, hasn't been seen since Thursday morning.
He suffers from dementia and his family is worried he may have become disoriented.
Searchers from 10 different teams from around the province have been searched throughout the day Saturday despite the cool, wet weather.
A Department of Natural Resources helicopter was temporarily grounded by the rain and fog.
"Our officers will canvas all of the businesses and we'll check the video from Thursday night and Friday and Friday night just to see if we can find anyone on the cameras that would match the description," said Staff Sgt. Reid McCoombs of Halifax Regional Police.
Police say many tips have been coming into search headquarters, including sightings in Bayers Lake Business Park.
"It's been concentrating in and around his home area Melrose Avenue and of course we've been doing a lot of work in the Bayers Lake area and then all of the roads and routes, power lines, railway tracks and trails," said Tony Rogers, the co-ordinator of the search Saturday.
"Anything that leads out from this area, we've been concentrating on because there's a possibility if you get on to one of those you could just continue to walk and walk and walk."
MacInnis is described as a white male, five feet three inches tall, weighing 135 pounds, with grey hair, silver glasses and several days' growth of facial hair. He was last seen wearing a green T-shirt, khaki denim pants and slip-on shoes.
Rodgers said search crews will be rotated through the night Saturday and will search by flashlight.
A decision will be made in the morning on whether the search will continue Sunday.
"Certainly any information we can get would be appreciated," said Rogers. "He's in trouble right now and we want to find him quickly."
Police are asking that MacInnis, or anyone with information regarding his whereabouts, call Halifax Regional Police at 490-5016 or their local police department.
