HughesNet Delivers 5 Mbps Service
Hughes Network Systems on Wednesday unveiled the ElitePremium plan for its HughesNet satellite broadband service, an offering that delivers download speeds of up to 5 Mbps.
ElitePremium will be available to order Aug. 21. It joins the Elite and ElitePlus plans that feature download speeds of up to 2 Mbps and 3 Mbps, respectively. There also are consumer plans - the Home, Pro and ProPlus - that feature recently increased download speeds of up to 1 Mbps, 1.2 Mbps and 1.6 Mbps, respectively.
The enhanced speed from the ElitePremium plan is made possible by the launch of Hughes' Spaceway 3 satellite, the company said. The bird was launched in August 2007 and began serving customers in April this year.
