EHRAN, Iran – An Iranian spokesman says the country has received a new shipment of nuclear fuel from Russia for its only nuclear power plant.
Hamid Khadem Qaemi, from Iran's nuclear agency, says Russia delivered a total of 33 tons (30 metric tons) by plane over the last week for the Russian-built Bushehr plant in southern Iran.
The official IRNA news agency on Wednesday quoted Qaemi as saying the fuel is meant for the plant's second year of operation.
Bushehr's startup was repeatedly delayed. The U.S. and some of its allies suspect the plant is part of an Iranian attempt to develop nuclear weapons — a charge denied by Tehran.
Recently, foreign intelligence reports have said Bushehr's control systems were penetrated by Stuxnet malicious software. Tehran denies this.
