Kaling: Dwight should take over 'Office'
LOS ANGELES, (UPI) -- Mindy Kaling of "The Office" says she thinks Rainn Wilson's character should take over as boss when Steve Carell leaves the U.S. sitcom after next season.
Carell has played Dunder-Mifflin regional manager Michael Scott for six seasons, but he has said he does not plan to extend his contract after the upcoming seventh season. Wilson has portrayed off-beat, power-hungry Dwight Schrute since the show began.
"I'd love to see Rainn Wilson in (Michael Scott's) position," Kaling, one of the show's stars, writers and executive producers, told EW.com. "Dwight has become so nuanced -- you actually care about him now. I think if (we did a good job laying the groundwork) this coming season, he would be a fantastic boss. But that's my dream ... It certainly hasn't been approved by people that are more powerful than me and who make those kinds of decisions."
