VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Alex Edler and Manny Malhotra scored power-play goals 2:44 apart midway through the third period and the Vancouver Canucks beat the Detroit Red Wings 6-4 on Saturday night for their sixth straight win.

There had already been four lead changes in the fast-paced game between two of the Western Conference's top teams before the Red Wings were undone by consecutive penalties to Johan Franzen and Todd Bertuzzi.

Edler converted the first from the high slot shortly after Roberto Luongo robbed Darren Helm on a 2-on-1 break at the other end.

Malhotra, who also scored on a short-handed breakaway late in the second period and set up Jannik Hansen's tying goal early in the third, banged in a rebound for the game's first two-goal lead.

Daniel Sedin and Mikael Samuelsson also scored, and Luongo made 24 saves for the Canucks.

Defenseman Niklas Kronwall scored his second goal of the game 1:40 into the third period to put Detroit ahead for the second time. But Hansen put in a rebound just over two minutes later as Vancouver handed Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard his first regulation loss (6-1-1) this season and his first in 23 games, dating to last season (19-1-3). Howard made 28 saves.
