A Calgary man who is facing a first-degree murder charge has been returned to Canada from Mexico.

Pablo Rodrigo Russell, 34, is charged with killing a man over a year ago in northeast Calgary.

Police issued a warrant for his arrest in March on one count of first-degree murder and one count each of accessing and possessing child pornography.

Virgilio was found dead inside an SUV in the 100 block of Falmere Way N.E. on Jan. 19, 2010. He was killed two days earlier at a house in the 200 block of Falshire Way N.E, and his body was then concealed inside a GMC Denali, police said.

In April investigators were informed that Russell had been detained in Mexico for being in that country without proper documents.

Police and immigration officials have been working to return the man to Canada.

Russell arrived in Vancouver on Wednesday where he appeared before a justice of the peace.

It's expected he will be moved to Calgary next week.
