Medvedev hopes euro 'gets well soon'

KRYNICA, Poland, (UPI) -- Fluctuations in the euro can hurt Russians who have their savings in that currency, President Dmitry Medvedev said Saturday.

At the International Economic Forum, Medvedev said the world needs more than two reserve currencies, RIA Novosti reported. He said he hopes the euro "gets well soon." The forum is held annually in Poland to discuss the economic interests of the European Union and its neighbors.

"The euro is our currency as well; it's not just the currency of the European Union because it is a currency that we use and it's a reserve currency," the president said.

Medvedev said he has called several times for an expansion in the number of reserve currencies.

"We believe that other countries will understand us because even with the two large and powerful currencies like the dollar and euro, the world has no insurance against problems," he said.
