HICKORY, N.C. --
A memorial service has been planned for a disabled girl found dead in North Carolina.
Zahra Baker, 10, was reported missing from her Hickory home on Oct. 9.
Several weeks later, officials in Hickory discovered the girl’s prosthetic leg in a wooded area near Christie Road. In the same area, police also discovered a bone that police say was a DNA match to Zahra.
A candlight vigil was held for Zahra on what would have been her 11th birthday, Nov. 16, 2010.
The memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at Drum Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Hickory. It is still not clear where Zahra will eventually be buried.
Meanwhile, Elisa Baker, Zahra’s stepmother faces charges of obstruction of justice. So far, no one has been charged in connection with Zahra’s death.
