ANAHEIM, Calif., May 15 (UPI) -- Joe Saunders outpitched perfect-game hero Dallas Braden in a complete-game performance Friday that brought the Los Angeles Angels a 4-0 win over Oakland.
Braden became the 19th pitcher in big league history to throw a perfect game last Sunday, but the Angels quickly produced a hit Friday when Bobby Abreu doubled with two out in the first.
Los Angeles finally ended Braden's scoreless straight in the sixth, getting an RBI single from Kendry Morales and a three-run homer from Hideki Matsui.
Saunders, meanwhile, gave up four hits and struck out six while throwing 109 pitches. It was the third complete game and second shutout of his six-year career.
The only other victory this year for Saunders (2-5) came on April 17 against Toronto.
Braden (4-3) also went the distance while surrendering four runs on seven hits.
