SEATTLE, (UPI) -- Jason Vargas baffled the Los Angeles Angels Sunday, allowing no earned runs over 7 1/3 innings in the Seattle Mariners' 8-1 victory.

Vargas (3-2) was charged with only one unearned run which scored on a wild pitch after he had exited the game in the eighth inning. The Mariners lefty issued two walks, scattered four hits and struck out four in the outing.

Josh Wilson belted a three-run homer and Michael Saunders chipped in with a solo home run and two RBI as the Mariners salvaged one win on a nine-game home stand.

Seattle posted 12 hits on a day that saw the firing of hitting coach Alan Cockrell and the promotion of Triple-A hitting instructor Alonzo Powell.

Angels starter Ervin Santana (1-3) was rocked for five runs on 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings.
