PHOENIX, (UPI) -- Brendan Ryan's three-run homer in the seventh gave St. Louis a four-run lead Friday and the Cardinals halted a four-game skid with a 5-2 victory over Arizona.
Rookie Jaime Garcia bounced back from a rough outing and held the Diamondbacks to four hits over five innings. St. Louis used five pitchers the rest of the way while handing Arizona its second straight loss.
Garcia (6-2) had suffered through his worst outing of the year Sunday when he gave up a career-high eight hits in a no-decision against Milwaukee. He gave up five walks Friday, but struck out four and held the Diamondbacks to a single run.
St. Louis had a 2-1 advantage heading into the seventh but Skip Schumaker reached on a two-out infield single and advanced to second on a base hit by Yadier Molina.
That brought up Ryan, who hit the first pitch from starter Rodrigo Lopez (2-5) over the wall in left-center.
Ryan Franklin retired the last five Diamondbacks for his 11th save.
