The mother of Tameron Rose has testified the little boy was fine when she dropped him at a babysitter's house, where a Corner Brook man is accused of killing him.

Jeffery Tippett is being tried for second-degree murder in the 2007 death of the 11-month-old child.

On Tuesday, Maria Rose was questioned about her son's health, and what happened in the hours leading up to Tameron becoming unresponsive.

Rose testified before Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador Justice Alan Seaborn that she had taken the baby to hospital a week before his death, because he had been whimpering in pain and could not put his foot down.

The court heard that a doctor diagnosed the boy with inflammation of fluid around his hip, and that he was reacting to a booster shot. He was treated with an infant version of Advil.

Defence lawyer Keir O'Flaherty asked whether the boy was still suffering when Rose dropped him off at the house of Tippett's girlfriend, Tanya Tulk, on the morning of Jan. 30, 2007.

"He was moving around normally," Rose testified. "That's why we were bringing him to Tanya's."

O'Flaherty then focused on Tippett and his behaviour around the child.

"Did he appear to be child-focused, Jeffery Tippett?" he asked.

"Yes," Rose replied.

This is the third time a trial has started on the second-degree murder charge against Tippett.

O'Flaherty and the boy's mother continually referred Tuesday to old testimony. While Rose had difficulty recalling the exact dates and times of the days building up to her son's death, she said she is sure there was nothing unusual about her son's behaviour when she left him with Tippett.
