N. Korea entities, individuals targeted

WASHINGTON, -- Two U.S. agencies Monday designated five North Korean entities and three individuals as supporters of that country's weapons of mass destruction program.
The designation, made under a presidential executive order, allows the United States to freeze their assets, isolating them from the U.S. financial and commercial systems, the U.S. Treasury Department said in a news release.
Also Monday, President Barack Obama signed an executive order directing the treasury secretary, in consultation with the secretary of state, to use sanctions against individuals and entities facilitating North Korea's trafficking in arms and related materiel, procurement of luxury goods and engagement in illegal activities.
The release said those activities include money laundering, goods and currency counterfeiting, bulk cash smuggling and narcotics trafficking.
