Pakistani militants raise money openly
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, (UPI) -- Militants are openly raising funds in Pakistan's Punjab province at religious gatherings, ceremonies and social welfare meetings, an intelligence report says.
The disclosure by Pakistani intelligence comes amid reports that the Taliban has increased its in presence in Punjab, home to more than half of Pakistan's 160 million people, the BBC Urdu service reported Wednesday.
A source in Pakistan's interior ministry told the BBC that the latest intelligence report names at least 17 organizations that are raising funds in Punjab.
The most active is identified as the Ghazi Force which has a close working relationship with Tehrik Taliban Pakistan, an umbrella group of anti-Pakistan militants.
The Pakistani intelligence report says members of Ghazi Force have carried out several attacks against government targets in Punjab with the support of the Taliban.
