Beijing, China -- Pirates hijacked Friday night a Panamanian freighter with 29 Chinese sailors in the Arabian Sea on the northern Indian Ocean, the China Marine Rescue Center said Saturday, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency.
The rescue center said it had not established contact with the hijacked ship, the Yuan Xiang, and did not know what had happened to the sailors.
The pirates told the Ningbo Hongyuan Ship Management Co., Ltd., that the ship is bound for Somalia, Xinhua reported.
