Pastor uses bullhorn against 'demons'
WARNER ROBINS, Ga., A Georgia pastor was arrested for the second time in a week for using a bullhorn to protest a school's nickname, the demons, which he says sends a bad message.
Donald Crosby, pastor of God's Kingdom Builders Church of Jesus Christ in Macon, was arrested Monday and again Thursday for infractions related to his use of a bullhorn to disrupt students at Warner Robins High School, the Macon (Ga.) Telegraph reported Friday.
He was charged Monday with picketing without a permit, and for disorderly conduct for not leaving when asked, Tabitha Pugh, police said.
Crosby said he plans to keep picketing because a pitchfork-wielding mascot sends the wrong message to teens.
Principal Steve Monday says the origin of the demon as school nickname or mascot isn't religious in nature and goes back to World War II, WMAZ-TV, Macon, reported.
Monday says the school got its mascot from the 7th fighter squadron at Robins Air Force Base, which earned its nickname in the South Pacific.
"They adopted that name in honor of that fighter squadron -- the 'Screamin' Demons,'" Monday said.
