Patriotic hat banned due to plastic guns
COVENTRY, R.I., (UPI) -- A Rhode Island family said their 8-year-old son was barred from wearing his patriotic hat to school because the toy army men on top were holding guns.
The Morales family, of Coventry, R.I., said 8-year-old David created a camouflage hat with plastic army men on top as a school project to honor U.S. service members, but officials at Tiogue School told him the hat violated a zero tolerance policy against drugs and weapons, WPRI-TV, Providence, R.I., reported Thursday.
Officials said the issue was with the guns being held by the toy soldiers atop the hat.
The Morales family said they do not agree with the school's decision, but they have agreed to abide by the ruling.
