Report: Talent agency drops Mel Gibson

LOS ANGELES, (UPI) -- The William Morris Endeavor Entertainment talent agency has dropped actor-director Mel Gibson as a client, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The news follows the death of Gibson's longtime agent, Ed Limato. It also comes in the wake of unsubstantiated media reports claiming the "Lethal Weapon" star was caught on audio tape engaging in a demeaning, racist tirade during an argument with Oksana Grigorieva, his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his infant daughter.

Gibson, the star of "Braveheart" and "The Patriot," went public with his relationship with Grigorieva as Robyn Moore, his wife of 30 years, filed for divorce from him in April 2009. Gibson and Moore have seven children together.

"Mel was really important to Ed," an agency source told the entertainment industry trade newspaper. "He was with him for 32 years and I think Ed saw him as a son... (However,) the world knows how (WME partner Ari Emanuel) feels and he has never changed that opinion."

Insiders said Emanuel has never been able to overlook remarks Gibson made about Jewish people several years ago during a drunken driving arrest.

The actor's spokesman told The Hollywood Reporter he had no intention of using another agent after Limato's death.

"At this point he doesn't seem to be in need of an agent," the representative, whose name was not reported, said.

The publicist said Gibson has projects lined up for the next two years.
