A man involved in a 2010 robbery at a restaurant in Paradise has been sentenced to a year in prison.
Billy Joe Hiltz, 24, made it clear to reporters outside court in St. John's that he is not pleased with the sentence.
"I'll f---ing kill myself tonight," he said as sheriff's officers led him away from the hearing.
At an earlier court date, Hiltz pleaded guilty to taking part in a holdup at a subway in Paradise near St. John's in February 2010.
Hiltz carried a crowbar to the restaurant and went inside to make sure the coast was clear. He testified that a friend threatened to beat him up if he didn't take part in the robbery.
Judge David Power said Hiltz could have said 'no' and he was responsible for his role.
Power said one year is at the low end of sentencing for robbery, and there was nothing exceptional in Hiltz's case to warrant a lesser sentence.
The defence had asked for a 90-day sentence to be served on weekends.
Hiltz has a Grade 7 education and mental health issues.
The other man who took part in the robbery, James Greenham, 20, is scheduled to appear in court in June.
